CONNECTICUT COMMISSION ON CULTURE & TOURISM’S FALL-WINTER CULTURE & SPECIAL EVENTS GUIDE NOW AVAILABLE
Comprehensive Guide Celebrates the State’s Cultural and Seasonal Offerings
HARTFORD, Conn. (August 22, 2007) – Planning a fall or winter daytrip or getaway in Connecticut just got easier! Now available, the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism’s fall-winter Culture & Special Events Guide highlights the state’s abundance of arts and cultural treasures, with information on exciting attractions, events and seasonal activities.
The free, semi-annual publication features directories of Connecticut’s theaters, art museums and historic sites, as well the exhibitions, festivals, craft and agricultural fairs, performances and holiday happenings in Connecticut from September through February 2008.
“From fall theater openings and apple-picking to Halloween haunted houses and holiday festivities, there is nothing quite like celebrating the fall and winter seasons in Connecticut,” said Governor M. Jodi Rell. “This comprehensive six-month planner helps residents and visitors experience the best of Connecticut – the vibrant, trend-setting cultural scene, as well as the classic New England setting.”
The 40-page fall-winter Culture & Special Events Guide includes eight new special features, each providing insider information on activities and venues within a specific theme:
Raising the Curtain – Provides a brief history of Connecticut’s regional theaters and a preview of shows opening this fall and winter Fall Traditions – Highlights an array of fall activities and events in Connecticut, including football, corn mazes, apple festivals, pumpkin-picking and haunted houses, that make the harvest season so memorable Autumn Roads – Includes five scenic rides that feature prime leaf-peeping opportunities and stops at quaint towns, picturesque parks and top atttractions Romantic Overnights – Lists romantic inns and B&Bs close to charming Main streets in Connecticut’s rolling hills and along its expansive shoreline Roadside Attraction – An excerpt from Jane and Michael Stern’s Roadfood Sandwiches: Recipes and Lore From Our Favorite Shops Coast to Coast focuses on the mouth-watering fare, most notably the buffalo chicken, served at Carminuccio’s in Newtown Art Spoken Here – Showcases small galleries around Connecticut exhibiting dynamic art and opportunities to meet the artists Catching the Spirit – Features perennial holiday classics around Connecticut, including parades, performances of the “Nutcracker” and “A Christmas Carol,” tree festivals and stunning light displays Illustrious Art – Announces a unique new exhibit of illustrations that tell the stories of renowned state icons
