Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival

July 12 - 29

This summer, Capital Classics stages Pericles, Prince of Tyre, Shakespeare’s epic adventure tale. Held outdoors on the beautiful grounds of the University of Saint Joseph.

Throughout his epic journey, Pericles matches wits with a murderous king, is pursued by an assassin, battles a shipwrecking storm, and fights knights for the hand of a beautiful princess. Over its three-weekend run, the Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival will attract more than 2,100 fans, who attend each summer with family and friends, along with a picnic dinner, wine, lawn chairs and blankets.

Audience members are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy pre-show entertainment, such as stage combat demonstrations; songs by the Elizabethan Consort; lectures by local educators; and performances by local student groups, as part of Capital Classics’ Youth in Community Arts program. Be sure to visit HartfordShakespeare.org for the full Festival calendar of events.

In case of rain, performances will be held inside the adjacent Hoffman Auditorium.
