8. Hit the Jackpot

Bet on a great weekend at two of America's most famous casinos, offering world-class dining, entertainment, lodging, and, of course, gaming. You can also try your luck at a new golf course, visit a Native American museum, and peruse two outlet malls for designer duds at discount prices.

Hit the Jackpot
Experiences Types: Rest & Relaxation
Seasons: Spring, Fall, Winter
Driving Tip: *

Spend the night at Foxwoods (several onsite lodging options), the world’s largest resort. Enjoy six casinos, the Fox Theatre (in 1993, Frank Sinatra opened the venue), gourmet dining (Paragon features continental cuisine on the 24th floor of Grand Pequot Tower), several nightclubs (dance your socks off at The Club), and specialty stores (offering everything from sunglasses to spices).

Play golf at Lake of Isles, Foxwoods’ new 36-hole course. Designed by golf course architect Rees Jones, the course has been named “one of the best new Upscale Public Courses" by Golf Digest and GOLF Magazine.

Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center

Spend the afternoon at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center, a state-of-the-art learning facility that focuses on the history and culture of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal nation. Among the wow factors: an amazingly realistic walk-through 16th-century Indian village complete with the aromas of a campfire and sounds of woodland animals.

Mohegan Sun

Treat yourself to a night at Mohegan Sun’s 34-story luxury hotel. The resort features 300,000-square-feet of gaming space, 40 shops (from apparel to antiques), the Elemis Spa (opt for a couple’s massage in the Strawberry Moon Room), live entertainment (everyone from Tony Bennett to Janet Jackson has appeared here), gourmet dining (try Michael Jordan’s Steak House, for starters), and three nightclubs (including Vegas-style Lucky’s Lounge).

Clinton Crossing

Before you head home, search for bargains at two Connecticut outlet centers. In Clinton, Clinton Crossing is includes seventy designer outlets, such as the Ralph Lauren Home Factory Store, Coach, and Barney’s New York Outlet. In Westbrook, the Tanger Outlet Center has 65 stores, including an Old Navy outlet, Timberland outlet and an onsite cinema.
