Ender’s State Forest, Granby

“With its picturesque waterfalls, Ender’s State Forest is a perfect place for photos. Navigating the paths and waterfalls may not be every bride’s idea of a perfect wedding day, though, so it’s also a beautiful spot for engagement photos, and even an after the wedding photo shoot.”

Hartford City Hall, Hartford

“This is one of the most surprisingly beautiful locations for photos. Hartford’s City Hall is on Main Street, next to the Wadsworth Atheneum. The huge atrium allows gorgeous natural light to flow in through the roof, there are spiraling marble staircases, and it’s incredibly grand. This is a location that you do need to get a permit to have photos taken in, because they will need to open it specifically for you. It’s $25 for Hartford/West Hartford residents for photo taking only, and $50 for all others. They are very responsive to phone calls as well if you have any questions! Here’s a link to where the paperwork and info can be found.”

Barkhamsted Reservoir, Barkhamsted

“The Savile Dam at the Barkhamsted Reservoir is a beautiful spot for engagement and wedding photos any time of year. The castle-like structure is stunning covered in snow, or lit by the setting sun in summer. It’s easy to access, with free parking and no permit requirements. This is also very close to Ender’s State Park, another great location for photos.”

Harkness Park, Waterford

Harkness Memorial State Park is one of the best locations for engagement and wedding photos in Connecticut because it’s one of the only locations in the state where you can get sunset photos over the water. As well as the beach, this location has a beautiful manor and gardens, and there is no permit needed to shoot here. (This is a wedding venue as well, inside of the mansion.)”

Old Lyme Bridge, Old Lyme

“The Old Saybrook-Old Lyme  bridge is a beautiful spot for photos. To get great views of the bridge, park in the free parking lot at Ferry Landing State Park and walk down the boardwalk. There are golden reeds that look beautiful in the sunlight, and the structure of the bridge is perfect for anyone who would like an industrial look to their photos.”

Edgerton Park, New Haven

“This very private and secluded park is a great location for anyone who doesn’t want to be surrounded by people while getting their photos taken. Edgerton Park also has a conservatory, so you can get flowers and greenery in your photos year-round. It’s most beautiful in the fall, when the leaves turn those spectacular New England colors.”
