From east to west, Connecticut is jam-packed with activities for the whole family – and Open House Day gives you plenty of opportunities to enjoy them. Here’s a list of experiences that will be offered on June 12.

Amistad Center for Art & Culture at the Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford

In-Person Experience:
Join The Amistad Center for Art & Culture and the Wadsworth for Juneteenth Family Day - a free event being hosted outside of the Wadsworth, with accompanying virtual programming available online. Festivities at the museum include: art pack giveaway (noon-2 p.m.), free ice cream (noon-2 p.m., while supplies last), a sidewalk community art project, pop-up by key bookstore, interactive drum and dance performance by stilt walker Mellissa Craig and FriendZWorld Music (12:30 p.m.-2 p.m.0, Juneteenth Celebration Stroll led by Mellissa Craig and friends (1:30 p.m.-2 p.m.), and Storyteller Angel R. and her arts troupe 515United share African folktales in the Amistad Center gallery beginning at 1 p.m.

Barker Character, Comic & Cartoon Museum, Cheshire

In-Person Experience:
From Vintage 1930s Mickey Mouse Toothpaste to a 1:1 Scale Replica of the Hulk, every toy you’ve ever played with (or dreamed of) is displayed amongst the 80,000+ antique toys and collectibles. For one day only, the museum is offering free admission to all museum visitors during Connecticut Open House Day.


Chakana Sky Alpacas, Chester

In-Person Experience:
Come to our small but mighty farm for a complimentary visit with the 15 alpacas. Experience their unique personalities up close and personal, offer them some treats, and enjoy their gentle and inquisitive natures. Before you leave, be sure to shop in 'Pacatique,' our farm store. Donations gladly accepted. Open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.


Connecticut Audubon Deer Pond Farm, Sherman

In-Person Experience:
Be a Citizen Scientist iNaturalist Outdoor Program, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Free admission. Register here. We will learn to use the iNaturalist app and go out in the field to collecting observations of plants and animals. Please come with the iNaturalist app downloaded onto your smartphone, or a digital camera that you can use to capture your observations.
Storytime & Scavenger Hunt, from 11 a.m. until noon. Free admission. Register here. Join us for a story about a simple way we can all add to our natural world. Your child will hear a story about a woman who beautifies her town by spreading flower seeds. The children will be given their own supply of seeds take home to spread. Story appropriate for children in grades 1 to 3, and for experienced younger listeners. Afterwards, join us for a short scavenger hunt around Deer Pond Farm.


Connecticut River Museum, Essex

In-Person Experience:
Open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., with free admission for the first 50 visitors. Children’s crafts from 10 a.m. until noon.


Connecticut Trolley Museum, East Windsor

In-Person Experience:
Half-price admission from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance, online.


Creamery Brook Bison Farm, Brooklyn

In-Person Experience:
Craft festival, food trucks, live music, donkey rides, free wagon rides to see the bison. Open from noon until 6 p.m. Masks required. $5 per person admission.


Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center, Mystic

In-Person Experience:
Come explore the Forest Loop Trail at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center. Stop by the front desk to pick up a scavenger hunt before you hit the trail. Complete your scavenger hunt and get a water bottle sticker to take home.


Dinosaur State Park, Rocky Hill

In-Person Experience:
If you like dinosaurs, you will love the 200 million-year-old fossil trackway, interactive exhibits, and the chance to cast your own dinosaur footprint to take home.  The exhibit center will be open to the public from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., and will not charge admission as part of Connecticut Open House Day. The state park grounds are open for walking, birding, picnicking and other outdoor exploration.


Ellsworth Hill Orchard & Berry Farm, Sharon

In-Person Experience:
Reduced price for pick your own strawberries. Must pay for the container prior to entering the picking fields to receive the discount.


Essex Steam Train & Riverboat, Essex

In-Person Experience:
20% off ticket purchases for Train & Boat Excursions on June 12.


Goldfish Swim School, Norwalk

In-Person Experience:
Visit Goldfish Swim School at 112 Main Street, and we will give you a tour of the facility and show you how we teach children aged 4 months to 12 years to swim and be safe around water! And if you sign up for swim lessons and mention CT Open House, we will give you 50% off a swim wear purchase.

In-Person Experience:
Visit Goldfish Swim School at 9C Riverbend Drive South, and we will give you a tour of the facility and show you how we teach children aged 4 months to 12 years to swim and be safe around water! H.O.R.S.E. of Connecticut, Washington

In-Person Experience:
We will welcome visitors for complimentary tours of the farm from noon until 3 p.m. Our tack shop will be open for browsing.


Hungerford Nature Center, Kensington

In-Person Experience:
Come meet some of our four hooved, two horned friends face to face with no fence in between. A great hands on experience awaits. Come down, enjoy, take picture and see what is new at Hungerford Nature Center. Open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., with free admission, along with a Meet the Goats program.


KidsPlay Children’s Museum, Torrington

In-Person Experience:
We are offering half-price admission for Connecticut Open House Day! Come and enjoy KidsPlay's 11,000+ square feet of interactive exhibits designed and built on the research-supported belief that hands-on multisensory play is a natural mechanism for learning. Lutz Children’s Museum, Manchester

In-Person Experience:
Touch a Truck! A variety of trucks will be at the museum from noon until 3 p.m.for everyone to check out, climb in and explore. There will also be live music outside as long as the weather is good, inside if it's not so great. Admission to the museum is free this day, but reservations are required, so we do not go over our capacity limits. You do not need a reservation to check out the trucks, just to enter the museum. All patrons aged 2 and up are still required to wear a mask inside the museum.


Lyman Orchards, Middlefield

In-Person Experience:
On Connecticut Open House Day, stop down at the Apple Barrel to meet all of your favorite children's authors! Each author will read an excerpt from their book and host a meet and greet afterwards.

New England Air Museum, Windsor Locks

In-Person Experience:
Walk amongst historic aircraft, view cockpits, fly flight simulators, create flying machines, and learn about our collection from members of the museum family. Admission for children (under 14) are free.


Niantic Children's Museum, Niantic

In-Person Experience:
Come have some learning fun and play by the bay! Enjoy $1 off per person (adults and children 12 months and up) with proof of Connecticut residency.


Shore Line Trolley Museum, East Haven

In-Person Experience:
Come Ride the Trolleys! Get a glimpse into the past on a National Historic District trolley line where trolley cars have operated for over 100 years. Your visit includes a 3-mile round trip ride and a self-guided tour. See restored cars from several major cities as we celebrate re-opening the United States. In-Person Experience:
Join the Wadsworth for Juneteenth Family Day. Admission is free noon until 5 p.m. and festivities take place from noon until 2 p.m., including art pack giveaway, free ice cream courtesy of Ice Cream for a Dream, sidewalk community art project, Key Bookstore pop-up, performance by Mellissa Craig and FriendZWorld Music, Juneteenth Celebration Stroll, and African folktales by storyteller Angel R. and 515United.
