Been cooped up with the kids and tired of all the screen time? It’s time to get back out and it feels so good. The summer sun is out and Connecticut’s got family fun galore! From sailing to zoo-going, there’s so much to discover right in your backyard – and the kids will love it too.
And safety is the top priority, so Connecticut attractions are following guidelines to make sure your visit can be focused on fun! Here are a few of the protocols:
- Museums, zoos, and aquariums are following these guidelines.
- Amusement parks are following these guidelines.
- Indoor attractions are following these guidelines.
Find the perfect spot for exploring with this growing list of re-opened family-friendly attractions following these safety protocols. You can filter these lists by town and region.
And below are a few spots going above and beyond to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for their visitors.
Set sail on an adventure with the whole family! For safe sailing, Poets Lounge Sailing Charters is cleaning all daysail charters thoroughly between charters and new cockpit cushion covers are used by each group. Private charters are primarily for single households who isolate together, but if more than one household comes aboard, they will ensure social distancing.
Grab the popcorn and drive on up to a movie night the kids will love! The Mansfield Drive-In is going to great lengths to limit contact. Tickets are only available online, less cars are allowed on the premises, cars must be parked 10 feet apart, customers are required to wear masks if they exit their vehicles, and food is delivered straight to each car by employees wearing masks and gloves.
Embark on a jungle safari – a mini golf safari that is! This family fun spot is keeping golfers extra safe by installing a plexiglass shield at check-in and creating an entirely new system of retrieving your equipment. Rather than the typical process of browsing and touching equipment, putters and golf balls are handed out individually and disinfected between use. And even though the course is outdoors, social distancing guidelines will still be in place!
Zoo-going can be safe and fun with Connecticut's Bearsldey Zoo's new safety measures. They're offering online ticket purchasing, limitied vistor capacity split into two sessions of 500 each, cleaning between sessions, a one-way walking loop, food and gift shop items available for online order and pick-up, and masks must be worn by all. That way, you can focus on discovering cool critters with the kids!
Carousels, coasters, and trains – oh my! Prepare for a day of fun and thrill at Quassy Amusement Park. For extra safety, the park is implementing state guidelines which include online ticket purchases, new loading and social distancing procedures for each ride, a one-way traffic flow where possible, rearranged ride lines to ensure social distance, and more.
Put your heads together (but not literally) and safely crack the code at Mystified Escape Rooms! This fun spot is going the extra mile to offer completely private escape room games for each party, contactless check-ins, hand washing before each game, and disinfected escape rooms. You can even call ahead to ensure the lobby is completely empty upon your arrival!
Discover science right up close! The Connecticut Science Center has gone to great lengths for safety. They’ve added filtering systems to the HVAC system to change the ratio of fresh air and circulated air, and all appliances are now touchless. For extra safety, tickets will be purchased online and have designated times in order to reduce capacity of visitors at a given time.
Slipaway River Tours is making waterfront adventure safe by creating passenger count limits of 10, social distancing measures, hand sanitzer availibility, and a mask-wearing requirement. Additionally, all surfaces are sanitized and no additional pillows or blankets are available.
Explore a whole new type of candy land and immerse yourself in the world of PEZ! This cool museum is making your experience safe by implementing many new guidelines including self-guided tours, an interactive game of the month in which visitors must bring their own pen or pencil to play, one way traffic flow and more. Plus, the PEZ lanyard you receive on your visit is not reused, but yours to keep. So sweet!
Get out on the water with the family! Branford River Paddlesports is providing a safe waterfront journey by disinfecting all equipment after each use, requiring masks at check-in, implementing contactless payment, recommending those who own a USCG approved Life Jacket with a whistle to bring their own, and more.
