Celebrate “Winter Birds and Holiday Traditions” this year at one of the largest gingerbread house festivals in New England. We will be winding up our year-long celebration of nature and the 110th anniversary of the Hartford Audubon Society with a “Winter Birds and Holiday Traditions” theme. In fact, the annual Christmas Bird Count started out as an alternative to a tradition of that era to go hunting on Christmas Day.
Gaze upon row after row of creative and colorful gingerbread creations, all made by regional artisans and bakers, students and community members, expert and beginner alike. The Wood, located on historic Old Main Street, provides the perfect holiday venue for showcasing the sugary artistic creations among sparkling lights and colorful decor.
Musical performances, story time and craft events, even visits from Santa will be scattered throughout the festival and don’t forget to stop by “Ye Olde Gingerbread Shoppe” for the opportunity to take home a bit of the magic with many holiday themed gifts and treats.
Leading up to the festival The Wood will be offering children’s and adult gingerbread house workshops, providing a chance to learn the basics or design like a pro.
