A man of great energy and many talents, Sloane (1905-1985) was a prolific artist, author, and illustrator of over 38 books, as well as an avid collector of Americana. The museum houses a collection of early American tools designed by the artist to tell a story highlighting the spirit, people, and stories of early America.

The museum galleries display original works of art by Sloane encompassing his vast portfolio including, spectacular cloudscapes, stunning pen and inks, and bucolic rural New England scenes. Visitors can better understand the life and career of the artist by exploring his recreated studio. The galleries always offer something new to see with rotating exhibits and programs throughout the season.

Explore what life was like in the early 19th century at the Noah Blake Cabin. Using Sloane's book, Diary of an Early American Boy as inspiration, the recreated 1805 cabin stands as an engaging exhibit for visitors with interactive programming for all ages. The Blake Cabin is made possible through the tireless effort and support of the Friends of the Eric Sloane Museum.

Take advantage of the natural beauty of the picturesque Housatonic River Valley. Walking trails enable visitors to take in the sights and explore the Kent Iron Furnace ruins while learning about the iron industry's importance to the area. The site is a National Historic Landmark and a State Archaeological Preserve.
