The full service paddlesport center is located directly on the Great Island Estuary and the Connecticut River Canoe and Kayak Trail. This is one of the premiere destinations in the entire northeast and our fleet of canoes, kayaks,and stand up paddleboards are suited for fishing, open water touring, and recreational family fun. We offer both rentals and sales of Kayaks, SUPs and accessories.

The 500 acre, Great Island Wildlife Management area is right in our backyard. These vast waterways where the Connecticut River meets the Long Island Sound provide an endless range of exploration and fun on the water. Serious enthusiasts can take on the many miles of waterways and tidal flats for a great workout, hit the sound for open water touring, or to just “escape” civilization for awhile while exploring deep into the many tributaries.

Families and friends looking to just chill and have some fun can pack a picnic lunch and explore Griswold point, watch an Osprey dive for fish, and see some of the most beautiful scenery that Connecticut has to offer. We are located within a short paddle to some fantastic shoreline beaches and tidal flats that you can only experience with the water access. We have everything your group needs to get you in the perfect canoe or kayak for your level of experience and get you out on the water. If Standup Paddleboarding is something you’re into, or have been eager to try, we have them for rental as well. Bring your enthusiasm, sunscreen, and towel and be ready for a great day!

Fisherman can take advantage of our fleet of utility fishing kayaks and canoes and within a short paddle, be in some of the Northeast’s greatest inshore fishery. We offer several models of kayaks for rental, specifically designed to get you and your fishing gear into some prime water for a fishing adventure of a lifetime – local “secret” knowledge, free of charge.

We offer SUP rentals by the hour, day, or week at CT’s Ultimate paddling destination; the Great Island Sanctuary. Our friendly, knowledgeable staff has everything you need to hit the most beautiful waters in the state, and go experience you new favorite sport.

Sunset Paddle Tours: Dusk is our favorite time to be out an SUP enjoying the views as the sun slips low in the sky. Paddling at sunset is the most beautiful time to be on the water.

Join instructor, Kevin Gallagher, for a sunset tour of the Great Island Estuary here in beautiful Old Lyme, CT. After some basic instruction, we’ll take a paddle tour of the area and find a spot to watch the sunset out on our pristine waters. This is a great way to unwind from the day, relax, and meet new friends. We provide SUP’s, all the gear, and basic paddle instruction. You provide your beverage of choice to toast the sunset and celebrate the end of another long summer day on the beautiful Long Island Sound. We schedule our tours every weekend throughout the summer. SUP Yoga: We supply all the equipment and instruction that will get you out and up for a fun way to get fit and feel great. On water sessions are one hour, and we recommend arriving early to set up, and prepare for your session. Paddle Eco-Tours: We are located in beautiful Old Lyme and directly on the National Great
 Island Estuary, on the Long Island
 Sound. We have direct access to
 some of the most pristine coastline 
in New England, and offer guided Eco-
Tours to introduce all to our natural
 wonder. Sharon Baldi, or one of our other certified kayak instructors, will take you
 out on a nature inspired paddling trip.
 Sharon is a certified NOLS kayak 
instructor, a naturalist who has led trips
 up Mt. Washington, and has a wide
 array of knowledge about the history,
 ecology, and biology of our area. As a member of the Audubon Society as well, Sharon will surely be able to answer many of your questions pertaining to wildlife and give you a great, educational experience.

We offer several different eco-paddle tours and are all guided by our CT seasoned local professional instructor. Sharon’s passion for both the wildlife and the historical significance of the Ct River estuary system will energize your inner explorer and be the highlight of your summer. Groups are up to 10 paddlers, and private groups sessions are available by reservation and can be customized per your needs and request. All tours include kayak rental, PDF and paddle.

Estuary intro: After a brief kayak lesson, you will be guided to Great Island where we will give you an introduction to the array of wildlife species in the area including Osprey, Menhaden, and the flora and fauna. Continuing around Great Island you will surely be able to see many of the different species and Sharon will answer any questions while pointing out wildlife and historical landscape points of interest.- 2.5 hours- $75pp

Historic tour: On this extended trip, Sharon will go over essentials of kayaking before taking off towards Great Island. You will be led through different inlets along the way and meander along the flowing rivers stopping off to view old rock engravings dating back to the 1600’s and talk more in depth about the local history. As always, the estuarie’s wildlife will be the central topic throughout the tour- 4 hours- $120pp 

Estuary explorer: For the more experienced paddler, you will be guided up the Black Hall River to cut through to the Back River which will lead you down Lieutenant River, eventually into the CT River This trip is tidal dependent but will offer you amazing views of osprey, marsh hawks, bald eagles, as well as many other bird species that live in the Phragmites. Considered to be one of the Northeast’s most pristine paddles- 4 hours- $120pp

CT river canoe and kayak trail (http://connecticutriverpaddlerstrail.org): We are located at the base of the Connecticut River Paddlers trail, where the river meets the Long Island Sound. The area is designated as the lower river and tidelands region, with hundreds of miles of protected water trails to explore. The Paddlers trail is an incredible natural resource and offers explorers the ability to paddle, camp, and discover some of New England’s most beautiful and un-spoiled natural resources

With its consistently navigable waters, few portages or difficult rapids, and a rich and varied landscape, the Connecticut River provides a unique opportunity to paddle through the heart of New England.

The Connecticut River Paddlers' Trail is a series of primitive campsites and river access points spanning from the headwaters south to long island sound. While most of the river shore is privately owned, a number of generous landowners have agreed to host the public at primitive campsites on their land.

Kayak Fishin: We are located at the mouth of the Connecticut River where the river, turns into salt marsh estuary, and open sound waters. This area is one of New England’s most productive fishing areas due to the eco-system created where fresh river water meets the sound’s salt water system. It is a spectacular place for kayak fisherman to explore and fish due to it’s shallow, protected water system, where many larger boats do not have access.

Fall Swallow Tours: Every year hundreds of thousands of swallow decend upon the river and estuary in their fall migration and ritual, as they head south.

If you have not experience the Swallow murmuration and are in the area, you MUST! The Tree Swallow makes its annual migration this time of year and chooses a small island near the mouth of the Connecticut River to collect before their long journey south. They put on a dazzling aerial display every evening at sunset, creating a spectacular natural show, right above you. These tour begin in late august and go all the way through October. Fall Foliage Paddle Tours: With some of New England’s most beautiful fall foliage, and access to it all from a water-perspective, this is the time of the year where the crowds of summer explorers dwindle, and most paddlers have the waterways to themselves to observe the change of the season in peace and quiet. The spectacular natural beauty, and the pristine access to it all via our paddling trails makes for an amazing autumn experience. They warm days, with crispness in the air make for an unforgettable day on the water.
