Our kayak rental service is located directly on the 500 acre Great Island Estuary and the CT River Canoe and Kayak Trail, providing open spaces, natural beauty, and miles of exploration for all to enjoy. This is one of the premiere destinations in the entire Northeast and our fleet of canoes, kayaks, and stand up paddleboards are suited for fishing, open water touring, and recreational family fun. We offer both rentals and sales of Kayaks, SUPs and accessories. Black Hall Outfitters is located directly on the Connecticut River Estuary, Canoe and Kayak trail. The 500 acre Great Island Wildlife Management area is right in our backyard and one of the country’s top Paddle Sport Destinations. These vast waterways where the Connecticut River meets the Long Island Sound provide an endless range of exploration and fun on the water. Serious enthusiasts can take on the many miles of waterways and tidal flats for a great workout, hit the sound for open water touring, or to just “escape” civilization for a while exploring deep into the many tributaries.

Sunset Paddles

Join our instructors for a sunset tour of the Great Island Estuary here in Beautiful Old Lyme, CT. After some basic instruction, we’ll take a paddle tour of the area and find a spot to watch the sunset out on our pristine waters. This is a great way to unwind from the day, relax, and meet new friends. We provide SUP’s, all the gear, and basic paddle instruction. You provide your beverage of choice to toast the sunset and celebrate the end of another long summer day on the beautiful Long Island Sound. We schedule our tours every weekend throughout the summer. Eco Tours

Discover and explore with us at one of our amazing paddling destinations. We are located in beautiful Old Lyme, directly on the National Great Island Estuary, on the Long Island Sound. We have direct access to some of the most pristine coastline in New England, and offer guided Eco- Tours to introduce all to our Natural wonder. Come See Why Yankee Magazine voted us “Best Natural Experience” in New England. We offer several different eco-paddle tours, and are all guided by one of our seasoned local professional instructors. Their passion for both the wildlife and the historical significance of the CT River estuary system will energize your inner explorer and be the highlight of your summer.

Group outings

Your group can take a short paddle out to the Island nature preserve, get out, explore and bring their own drinks, food or snack if desired (which we can help coordinate and facilitate). We can get a few on-water guides to join them and show them around, and take them on a tour of the CT river paddle trail here in Old Lyme.We have a fleet of kayaks, SUPs, and tandem kayaks, so we can offer a range of options for your group. Our fleet of kayaks and SUPs can accommodate groups of up to 100 people and we can even arrange all your specific needs upon request. No two group outings are the same, so we work with you to customize your event to be the perfect day and an experience you will never forget. Weekly Kid’s Paddle Camp

The BHO Kid’s Paddle Camp is a 5 day camp packed full of awesomeness! Campers will learn the basics of stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, and tandem paddling and have a blast doing it. Each day is focused on teaching a new skill and new water activity. Instructors will teach balance, control, steering and paddle etiquette, marine education, and water safety. Campers will participate in paddle races, beach challenges, swimming, marine science education, and much more. The daily agenda will be subject to daily weather, wind and tide conditions. At the end of the camp, kids will be an equipped paddler with the skills and confidence needed to continue paddling all summer long.
