Connecticut for Single Female Travelers Last Updated: July 2016
Connecticut offers all kinds of exciting destinations for solo travelers. In fact, every cultural institution, outdoor attraction, restaurant, accommodation and other summer destination extends a welcoming hand to women traveling alone (and men, too, for that matter). But some places seem more suitable than others, especially for women looking to stretch themselves a bit either physically or mentally.
Weir Farm National Historic Site, Wilton
Test your creative hand at Weir Farm National Historic Site. Tour the beautiful Wilton property of American Impressionist artist Julian Alden Weir, then try your hand at sketching or watercolors.
New England Science & Sailing, Stonington
Taking to the water at New England Science & Sailing. Based in Stonington, NESS offers an array of water-based lessons and activities, including kayaking, sailing and stand-up paddleboarding lessons. There are also powerboating lessons and, for those seeking a group setting, regularly scheduled kayaking tours along coastal inlets.
Connecticut Hiking Alliance, Statewide
Get out on the trail with the Connecticut Hiking Alliance. One of the best ways to get to know new people is to go hiking with them. The organization schedules regular hikes, mostly in Connecticut, and other events, usually followed by a get-together for a meal or a drink.
Wisdom House, Litchfield
Renew and restore at Wisdom House. Tucked into the scenic Litchfield Hills, Wisdom House offers writer/artist retreats, personal retreats, spiritual companioning, labyrinth walks and other classes and programs.
The Silo Cooking School at Hunt Hill Farm, New Milford
Try summer cooking classes at The Silo Cooking School at Hunt Hill Farm. There’s always a new cooking lesson on the schedule in a pleasant country setting. Check the website for the latest offerings.
Empower Leadership Sports & Adventure Center, Middletown
Dare to get up in the air at Empower Leadership Sports & Adventure Center. Singles are welcome to come try the Canopy Tours, Map & Compass Scavenger Hunts and Tree Climb Adventures.
