"Summer at Sea" - Waterford's Maritime History 1850's
The Waterford Historical Society hosts a troupe of living historians who will regale visitors with tales and demonstrations of maritime life in 1850's Waterford.
The Waterford Historical Society and the Dirty Blue Shirts, a troupe of living historians, will regale visitors with tales and demonstrations of maritime life in 1850's Waterford. Listen to stories of women and children at sea, see demonstrations of rope and net making, canvas stitching and caulking, and learn about the importance of seafood in the daily diet harvested from the bounty offered by the nearby waters of Long Island Sound.
The blacksmiths will be operating the forge at the Ralph Madara Blacksmith Shop, so stop by to observe the craftsmen at work. There will be tours of the historic buildings, including the 1740 Jordan Schoolhouse, Beebe-Phillips House, and the Stacy Barn full of antique farming equipment.
There is free parking by Jordan Green, at the Waterford Public Library or Community Center across Rope Ferry Road, and handicap-accessible bathrooms are located nearby.
