The day begins at the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, featuring 1,000 sea animals ranging from 9-foot sharks to clouds of jellyfish. There’s also a 6-story-high IMAX theater, harbor seals, sea otters, meerkats for one and all, and touch pools featuring green crabs and rays.

Has bad weather put a damper on your outdoor plans? No worry, there’s lots you and your family can do in Connecticut with a roof over your heads. For example, here’s a day trip in Fairfield County that should keep everyone well occupied. And, incidentally, it works just fine in nice weather, too.
Next comes a drive up to Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton, where there’s ice skating, a golf driving range, mini-golf, batting cages, Fun Bowl (bowling with laser lights and music), Lazer Tag and a video arcade – in short, just about everything a kid requires for a good time.
On your way back to your home or hotel, stop at one of southwest Connecticut’s great roadside wonders, Stew Leonard’s, dubbed “the Disneyland of grocery stores” by The New York Times. At the flagship Norwalk location, costumed characters, live entertainment, abundant food samples and a colossal selection of takeout foods are all in evidence. Take food home as an excellent capper to the day.
