Cut or Pick Your Own Christmas Trees & More in the Litchfield Hills

Exactly when does that joyful holiday spirit really kick in? That’s easy – when you bring home the Christmas Tree! So, why not make a memorable day of it by visiting a local tree farm and cutting your own? Find out which species provide the perfect color, branch strength, needle retention, and aroma for your home. Each farm adds its own magic touches – like cider and hot chocolate, hayrides, and visits from Santa. So, bundle up, grab the kids and your pup (on a leash) and rev up the holidays at a Litchfield Hills Christmas Tree Farm. Since some farms run out of trees and/or close early for the season, check their websites before you head out.

New Hartford

If you're looking for an elevated tree-cutting experience, New Hartford's got it. Stop at Maple Hollow Farm, where they not only have some of the hardiest trees, but an adorable Christmas shop that offers holiday decor and the farm's ever-popular hostess baskets.

At the nearby Holiday Farm, you'll enjoy a tractor ride to the top of their scenic hill after you cut your tree. The friendly staff will wrap it for an easy transport to your home.

Also in New Hartford, Steadman Tree Farm offers a variety of trees to take home. And if you head into their farm shop, treat yourself to some hot chocolate and cookies and buy wreaths and ornaments for your home.

New Milford

New Milford is home to a batch of wonderful tree farms. Stroll four acres of trees to find one with your name on it at Windswept Tree Farm, a family-owned and operated farm. With eight different types of trees to choose from and a farm store with wreaths, ornaments, hats, mugs, and pint glasses - all made in New Milford - there's something for every visitor.

And there are beautifully shaped Douglas Fir and Blue Spruce trees from 6-12 feet (and some larger) that are yours for picking and cutting at Lappala Christmas Tree Farm. And no need to bring a saw or wrapping equipment - the farm has it ready for you.

Woodbury

There is always a smiling face to give a helping hand at Lewis Christmas Tree Farm, featuring home-grown Concolor Fir, White Spruce, Fraser Fir, and Balsam Fir trees. To augment their own stock, they bring in cut trees ranging from 6'-10' plus roping, sprays, and more. Located on the farm is a beautifully decorated barn selling locally made candles, wreaths, jewelry, dog treats, and all kinds of other Christmas goodies.

Also in Woodbury is Busy Acres Tree Farm that's been growing Christmas trees since 1979. Now, the farm has over 30 acres of beautiful Fraser Fir, White Pine, White Spruce, Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, and Douglas Fir trees (no pesticides used on any trees) - all for your choosing to bring home with you.

Washington and Warren

Since 1746, Averill Farm, a tenth-generation family farm in Washington Depot, has offered cut-your-own trees, cider, wreaths, and much more. Don't forget to pick up a pie or two at the bakery!

And not too far away is Angevine Farm in Warren, which features a Christmas Barn with activities, tree trimmings, snacks, and visits from Santa. The Yellow Farm Dog Cafe will bring out your sweet tooth with tasty hot chocolate and baked goods.

Barkhamstead

Stop at Homegrown Farms, a farm that's been dedicated to making holiday memories for nearly five decades. Here, you can choose and cut Christmas trees of all varieties plus pre-cut Fraser Fir, Balsam Fir, and Blue Spruce. Saws and tree wrapping are provided. At the greenhouse gift shop, you can snag some farm merch and stocking stuffers for the family.

Harwinton and Thomaston

At Barry Farms in Harwinton, you can choose and cut your own Christmas tree or pick from their fresh-cut Canadian Balsams. There are always plenty of hand-made holiday wreaths and centerpieces for sale, made with locally harvested material. Their new Christmas store features products from many local artisans, including soaps, local foods, ceramics, and more.

In neighboring Thomaston, Nibbling Brook Farm offers fresh-cut trees, wreaths, decorations, wood carvings, and more.

Litchfield

You and the kids will certainly have a jolly good time at Bees, Fleas & Trees. Your little ones can write letters to Santa as they sip hot cocoa - before or after picking out the tree (and, if you desire, a tree stand!) of your choice.
